Mathews Readymix Donates Concrete to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley
“Ask not what your teammates can do for you. Ask what you can do for your teammates.” —Magic Johnson
For many years, Mathews Ready Mix has made it a priority to help build, grow, and strengthen the communities we’re a part of. This is why we teamed up with other local businesses in 2022 to give the gift of basketball to our local Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley in Chico.
Pre-game
Back in 2022, Mathews Readymix was approached by local contractor Jess Serano to see if we would be interested in helping build an outdoor sports court for the Boys & Girls Club in Chico. The answer? A slam-dunk yes! Philanthropy is important to Mathews Readymix, and we were happy to commit our product and time to the project.
The goal
The Boys and Girls Club of the North Valley were shooting for a half-court where kids could play basketball, pickleball, and more. This required a donation of 50 cubic yards of 4000 psi fiber-reinforced concrete.
The players
While a professional basketball team has 5 players on the court, Team MRM had a total of 8 players in this game. There were 6 drivers, a sales rep, and our Quality Control manager involved in the delivery and pouring of the concrete donation.
The game
Mathews Readymix connected with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley and the other all-star local business teams like the Chico Rotary Club, Lifescapes, a Landscape Company, Jess Serrao Construction and Concrete, Knife River Corporation, The Home Depot, Northgate Trucking, World Graphics, and Bob’s Concrete Pumping to make their hoop dreams a reality. On November 15, 2022, we completed the concrete pour. After landscaping and other parts of the project were finished, the first pint-sized players hit the court on November 18th.
The winner
Mathews Readymix loves a game where all the players win. And the real winners are not just the kids at the Boys and Girls Clubs of the North Valley who are on the courts today, but the thousands of kids in future generations who’ll benefit from this beautiful outdoor play area. It provides a place for the local youth in need to reach their full potential in becoming responsible, productive, and caring citizens in the community.
