Mathews Readymix Partners with Chico State Concrete Industry Management Program

Helping the students of today become the industry pros of tomorrow!

At Mathews Readymix, we’re proud to support local initiatives. Since our founding in 1947, we’ve always been invested in the community. From our donations for the rebuilding of the Honey Run Covered Bridge to our work on the Midway Bridge expansion, we choose projects with a positive impact on where we live. It’s one of the key reasons Mathews Readymix has partnered with the Chico State Concrete Industry Management Program (CIM).

Introducing Mathews Readymix + Chico State Concrete Industry Management Program

We believe the future of the concrete industry depends on today’s students, which is why we’re now part of the Patron program with the Concrete Industry Management degree program at Chico State, one of only five such programs in the United States. Our patronage helps ensure current and future students in the CIM program at Chico State get employable and actionable skills they can use immediately after graduation.

Patrons making a difference

Mathews Readymix has joined around 50 concrete industry partners to support Chico State’s CIM program students through scholarships, internships, and other programs. As a group, the CIM Patrons fund $2,000 a semester per student. In addition to financial assistance, the group provides valuable connections for students to the industry. Mathews Readymix, for example, offers internships during both semesters and during the summer.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. Supporting them is one of the most important things we can do for the future of the concrete industry.”
— Rob Montes, Quality Control Lab Supervisor and Chico State CIM grad

Providing jobs for the future

Students in the CIM program are exposed to all elements of the concrete industry during their time with Mathews Readymix. We love showing them the cutting-edge technology powering our operations and some of the interesting science experiments we do, like creating proprietary concrete blends for special projects. And the opportunities don’t end there—we also hire directly after graduation.

Both interns and new hires can work in either:

  • The Quality Assurance Department. This position does onsite concrete testing and truck coordination.

  • The Lab. This includes trial batching, breaking cylinders, sieve analysis for both coarse and fine aggregates, running cleanliness value on coarse and fine aggregates, concrete set time testing, inputting break data, and creating mix designs.
