Home of the Blue Stripe Truck: Good Neighbors for Over 75 Years

The year is 1973. America’s participation in the Vietnam War has just ended, and the troops are finally home. Elvis Presley’s broadcast of his concert in Hawaii was watched by more people worldwide than the Apollo Moon Landings. And here in the Golden State, the Point Mugu earthquake hit the southern coast, resulting in over 1 million dollars worth of damage. Meanwhile, concrete was coming to the forefront of the construction industry thanks to The Federal Highway Act of 1956, which was introduced to build a national system of interstate highways across the USA out of concrete.

Mathews Readymix is part of California’s history

But while the rest of the world was changing, Mathews Readymix had already spent a quarter of a century getting to know our neighbors and becoming a part of the community. Over the years, since our very first projects in 1947, we’ve come to be known as the longest-running concrete plant in Chico and have built a reputation for delivering quality products to Butte, Sutter, and Yuba counties.

During the last seven decades, our company has witnessed significant advancements in the world and in the industry – like the creation of State Farm Center in 1963, the first domed concrete sports arena. These kinds of innovations have inspired us to keep up with ever-evolving technology in the industry and use it in our own projects. While the focus decades ago was building some of the state’s first highways and concrete sidewalks, it’s now evolved to more complicated technical pours like bridges, and our projects and technologies are sure to evolve even further over the next ten years.

Focused on cutting-edge technology and techniques

Our mission to keep current on concrete trends benefits our neighbors and the neighborhoods we live in. One of the best examples is the Butte City Bridge Project we’re working on now, which required us to create a special concrete blend fit for this large-scale endeavor with CALTRANS and other local entities. Once the bridge is complete, it will replace a bridge that’s been around since 1948, helping to reconnect communities across Glenn County.

Because we live in the communities we serve, we understand the importance of preserving local history. It’s one of the reasons we donated our time, technology, and concrete to help rebuild the Honey Run Covered Bridge after the Camp Fire destroyed it in 2018. As your local concrete provider, we always make time for jobs close to home, big and small, and are a trusted ally for concrete projects–from helping our clients pour sidewalks to rebuilding their homes in Paradise.

Looking toward the future as a sustainable national partner

Although we’ll always be rooted in our communities here, our network has also expanded beyond NorCal and across the country thanks to our partnership with Build With Strength, where we’ve joined forces with other Ready Mix concrete companies to build a sustainable future. Our common goal is to cut carbon emissions to zero by 2050, and National Ready Mixed Concrete Association members have already reduced their emissions by 21%. Taking care of the planet goes hand in hand with taking care of our community – for present and future generations. It’s what good neighbors do!

With a focus on being a good neighbor

So now here we are in the present day. With decades of experience under our collective tool belts, Mathews Readymix is happy to share our knowledge with our community. You can contact us anytime for help with your concrete projects. Because we’re not just the premier concrete supplier in the area. We’re your neighbor and your trusted friends. So give us a wave the next time you see one of our blue-striped trucks go by! Our kids are on the baseball team with yours, you’ll probably run into us at the grocery store, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
