Day in the life: 8 hours at your local concrete plant

Ever wondered what happens at a concrete plant like ours at Mathews Readymix? It’s no secret we’re one of the premier concrete providers in Butte, Yuba, and Sutter counties. But many folks might not know about what goes on behind the scenes in concrete production. So join us for a proper tour on today’s blog for a sample day at your local concrete plant.

Rise and Shine!

Our amazing team at Mathews Readymix begins to arrive at the plant at 6:00 a.m., armed with their coffees and ready to start the day. Inside, sales and management fire up the computers and equipment and start prepping for today’s work.

Outside, our drivers and concrete team are gearing up for another big day. You can hear the hum of some of our blue stripe trucks getting ready to rumble with a fresh batch of concrete.

Ring, ring!

Our knowledgeable and friendly sales team starts receiving new orders over the phone. They always take enough time to answer any questions and understand the specific concrete needs of each client. And if it’s going to be a large job, they make sure to arrange a special pre-pour meeting

Planning time.

This is when we get down to the details and start designing specialized plans for our clients’ concrete orders. This means poring over Excel spreadsheets, drawings, and plans to figure out the best mixture for each project.

At Mathews Readymix, we pride ourselves on our ability to create proprietary blends for special projects. We stay on top of the latest trends in the industry and have modern equipment at our facilities to make it happen!

Testing strength.

Once we have a concrete plan (pun intended!), we make sure to test the strength of the project mixture. Only when we’re fully satisfied with the quality will we clear it for use.

Lunch break!

Fill the truck!

Now comes the fun part: filling a truck with concrete mix! Time to activate one of our busy blue stripe trucks. Our experienced operators fill its belly with the special ready-mixed concrete we created for the client as it rotates and churns. Then away it goes to its destination to be poured.

But there’s no time to dilly-dally—there are always more vehicles lined up for concrete. We’re not called “home of the blue stripe truck” for nothing! In fact, our fleet is so active, some locals play a game of spotting them in the wild.

Pouring molds.

If we are pouring molds at our plant instead of the final destination, we also fill the trucks with concrete. The rear wheels of the truck rise, and a chute extends downwards as a mold is placed underneath. Concrete pours out and fills the molds as our team guides it in place. Once they cure—typically in 24 to 48 hours—they’ll be ready for the client.

Delivery.

Now that the molds we poured earlier in the week are dry, they’re ready to load for delivery. Time to send them out into the world to do good things!

That’s a wrap on today!

Our team heads home around 4 p.m., but even as our team turns out the lights, they’re already brainstorming new ideas for tomorrow. Because when you’re as passionate as our team, the work is never quite done.

At Mathews Readymix, we’re proud to offer the highest-quality concrete products and are committed to providing our community with the best service in the area. Our mixes can be designed to meet the needs of any application, big or small. If you need help with a concrete project, contact us today, and you might just be a part of our next day in the life!
